A little over a month ago, I decided it was time to go back to school and get my degree. A long time ago I started working towards a degree in filmmaking, and a few years ago I took a course and was told to choose a major. I have accomplished most of the major requirements to get a degree in film, but I signed up too late to get into the class that would complete the requirements.
That being said, I now have to take all the classes I’ve been putting off. Right now I’m taking a science class to fulfil that requirement, and I’m doing alright in that class. It’s online, so I can listen to the lecture whenever I feel the need, and rewind it if I miss something. The only thing I’m not thrilled about is the amount of paper/ink my printer is going through. I may buy a new iPad next year just so I can try going paperless. Next term I’m taking rhetoric, drafting, English, a scrip to screen class, and continuing this science class I’m currently in. Two of those classes I’m excited to take. The other two, I’m doing just to get my GPA back up, and maybe learn something new.
Between selling the house, buying a new one, working full time and going to school full-time, Winter 2020 is going to be an insanely busy time of year for me, but I’m looking forward to it.
At this rate, I’ll be able to complete my degree sometime in 2021, and hopefully have a couple short films in my portfolio. Well, short films that I’ll be proud to put in my portfolio.
On top of my film major, I was talked into possibly taking English as a minor, since I have just enough remaining to fulfil that requirement. What will that get me? I don’t know, but I enjoy English as much as I do film, and my other options were getting a minor in Psychology or Anthropology, and I could not think of anything more boring than to have to sit through another year and a half of those classes. I was also told I don’t NEED to go for a minor either. After this year is over I can just take the occasional evening/weekend or online class until I have my degree.
